Description

The cooperation processes initiated in 1996 in the framework of the twinning between Salt and Quilalí have been addressed to promote the local authorities of the municipality of Quilalo, Nicaragua, and to ensure to promote the social inclusion of the weakest sectors. In this sense, from the beginning the Salt-Quilalí twinning opted to prioritise support for the rural population of Quilalí having as did not even have the basic services, so we defined the work to be carried out with the San Ramon community. This community, despite being one of the most populated, did not have a rural secondary school that would provide training to youth and establish the bases of future changes. Likewise, was accompanying both the self-organization of the agricultural cooperatives through the Union of herders and farmers of Quilalí (UGAQ) as the creation from the beginning of a rural Institute that was to break the isolation and build a future with better prospects: training, access to credit, joint cooperative marketing, professionalization, etc., so, betting an orientation addressed to promote productive and rural development.

We have also supported the openness of the motherhouse and of the Popular Pharmacy.

After 15 years of twinning, arises a systematization that helps to identify the role of all stakeholders and especially the sustainability of each of the initiated activities, the obtained results and the impact of a long process, as well as the interrelation between each of them that allows identifying a coincidence in the directionality or even an integration that favours a push towards the development.
