Marianao is one of the twenty-six municipalities of the province of La Habana (Cuba). Between this and the municipality of Sant Boi de Llobregat began a relationship in 1989, which was formalized with the signing of the twinning agreement in 1994, generating a history of more than ten years of shared work.

During this time has been carried out some development projects and created bonds of partnership between different sectors and entities in both populations, as well as several trips of exchange. At the beginning of the year 2005, Cambrils is twinned with Marianao for encourage and involve citizens and institutions towards the values and principles of development cooperation.

Both Catalan municipalities opt for a model of partnership that goes beyond a simple official relationship between cities and municipal authorities. The aim is to establish a permanent relationship and friendship ties between the twin cities in order to provide a better knowledge, understanding, exchange of experiences and mutual cooperation. Sant Boi and Cambrils joined forces to boost their partnerships with Marianao. In this sense, concentrating efforts and resources, allows an increasing in the impact and the possibilities of development of one of the poorest municipalities of Cuba, which is what pursues the twinning.

The AVALUEM task is to make an analysis of the actions carried out by two partnerships so far and propose a plan of future actions that can agree on among the three partner municipalities and civil society entities that give body and life to double twinning
