The project drinking water and sustainable environmental sanitation in rural villages of Huanta and Churcampa (Peru) has been conducted in 25 rural communities of the municipalities of Huanta and Churcampa, in South-central Peru. 27 drinking water (collection, driving, domestic distribution) systems were installed in these communities, as well as the corresponding administrative water boards and we worked also in the awareness of the population on hygiene and conservation of the environment. In addition to the objectives directly related to the management of the water cycle, we have included goals on reducing the inequalities between men and women.
According to the final report of the Town Hall of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the objectives and expected results have been fulfilled; so that the processes of management and sustainability seem well addressed, also have the coverage and efficiency of drinking water systems improved. However, we will analyse in detail, through evaluation, if indeed the project has fulfilled goals.
On the other hand, the local partner -Asociación Servicios Educativos Rurales- needs support to systematize its experience in the two municipalities so that it can be used as a reference for other projects of drinking water and guide the future calls for municipal cooperation of Vitoria-Gasteiz. This assessment will also allow improve the monitoring of the systems installed by the project and help to develop new cooperation projects related to the management of the water cycle.
