Identification of the History Museum project of the city of Marianao

An experience especially innovative in the field of cultural cooperation through the twinning between municipalities, is the double twinning of Sant Boi de Llobregat and Cambrils with Marianao (Cuba), in which an inter-municipality agreement about the educational cooperation and the cultural priorities of the twinning have been set. More specifically, the main area of intervention is the project of support to the Museum of history of the city of Marianao, where even the Department of Culture and Media of the Generalitat de Catalunya collaborates too.

This initiative is consistent with the fact that, increasingly it is assumed that working to eradicate poverty does not imply only to satisfy material needs or to overcome deficits in the distribution of income, but to work to expand the rights, opportunities and capacities of the most disadvantaged. Culture is also an excellent way to promote the rapprochement of villages.

The Museum is placed in an old colonial House that is being restored, so it requires external support of Catalan cultural cooperation for the development. Due to the existence of common historical roots between Marianao and different municipalities of Catalonia, as well as contributing to the cultural and Museum strengthening and restoration of furniture and other pieces, we want to publicize these historical relationships through the creation, in her womb, of a Catalan Place.
