The program to be evaluated

The association of Hanan has 750 disabled children and adolescents. The name of the requests of inscription grows year after year up to the point of creating a waiting-list due to the incapability to answer to all the demands. The transport is a very important service that offers to its pupils, as just a few number of the families can take its children to the centre for its account (car or taxi); also, we have to remember that the public transport is not adapted for disabled. In this sense, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona did a donation of two buses, a big one and a minibus, that at present are basic to cover this service.

According to Hanan, before having these buses of the AMB, many pupils with physical disability, especially those who need the wheelchair, were missing too many classes and meetings of formation due to the lack of transport (since the mini buses that were used previously were not enough). Also, the AMB bus makes longer trips and achieves distant areas of the centre of the city and it has capacity for a higher number of people than the mini buses.

Finally, thanks to this donation, the Hanan pupils can make use of other social services and activities such as sports, cultural services, etc that exist in the city, and make excursions during the weekends and festive days out of the centre of Tetuán.

Therefore, two buses keep on working and do 4 daily trips. During the weekends they take the children to other places –out or inside the city- to take part in out-of-school activities (museums, excursions, sports competitions, etc). The minibus is used also to go to look for bread and other necessary food for the dining room of the centre. So, it has helped to diminish the alienation and the isolation of the people with disability of Tetuán as it is the only way of transport that allows the association to transport all of thems.
