The context

In the framework of procurement at origin of temporary workers for the agrarian sector, the Fundació Pagesos Solidaris has identified two flows that characterize circular co-development model:

  • Migrant workers bring their workforce in the agricultural sector in Catalonia.
  • With the salary received and the knowledge and experience acquired during their stay in Catalonia, the temporary workers, to return to their respective communities, make investments and promote local development in this way.

The FPS aims to enhance these rural development initiatives in the communities of origin, temporary workers, whether collective or individual initiatives, and support to the necessary structures.

The project to evaluate

To achieve this objective, on the one hand, we have designed a cycle of training, which consists of three modules, to support, in an individual way, the temporary worker in his role of actor or co-development agent. On the other hand, the FPS has mobilized funds from different institutions and Catalan organizations to promote projects in the countries of origin of the workers (Morocco, Colombia and Romania). Another field of action of the FPS has been to strengthen the interrelation of the own actors of co-development, organizing meetings by country and funding computer spaces that facilitate their participation in the network.
